In the spring of 2021 I was commissioned to create a cover illustration for Lumooja. Lumooja is a culture magazine about Finnish literature and creative writing, and each issue has a dedicated theme. The issue I created the cover for had the theme Gender/Role and within the issue the theme was explored in a multitude of ways, from various points of views.
Fantasy role-plays are dear and close to my heart, and they also influenced this piece heavily. I especially love the camp and glam space elves of the 80s anime. I didn’t want to use tired clichés relating to gender expression, but instead wanted to approach the theme creatively and I really love the final piece.
This illustration was created using tools such as Wacom Cintiq -pen display and Adobe Photoshop.
